Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar

As a family who loves food, we are always researching new places to dine together. The stakes are exponentially high when traveling. Typically we are only passing through, or may only have a few days in a certain area. Planning out the best food stops becomes a top priority. Many of our options stem from friends and family in the area. You can hardly go wrong with a suggestion from a local. We look online to check out the contender’s menu, reviews, photos, etc., and we make our decision from there. What’s a vacation without sampling the local cuisine?

Some trips we take are closer to home. On this occasion in particular, we traveled to Atlanta, GA to celebrate LaZendra’s sister’s birthday. A family friend recommended "Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar”, so we got everyone on board and headed out. Located in the up and coming neighborhood of Decatur, Ms. Icey’s serves up a blended cuisine of Southern and Caribbean flare. This is all made possible by Chef Yusef and Chef Lorenzo. Lorenzo has roots in New Orleans, while Yusef comes from a Jamaican and Latin Caribbean background. This team produces the most decadent and mouth watering creations. If you’re planning to dine here, be sure to make reservations. We had a party of fourteen, but even if you have only two people we still highly recommend booking a table ahead of time. On arrival there was a line out the door. We knew immediately that the food was going to be top notch.

First, the staff was absolutely incredible. We were greeted with such hospitality that we immediately felt at home. You could tell they genuinely wanted to be there, sharing this experience with us. Our server in particular spent so much time with our family explaining the menu and suggesting favorites. We were so impressed with her knowledge. While our meals were being prepared, we enjoyed the live DJ who was playing 90’s R&B. Before we knew it we were all laughing, singing, and bopping in our seats. This experience just tied the entire atmosphere all together, creating such a great vibe.

Next, the FOOD. Once we were served, our entire family was completely in awe at each other’s plates. Everything looked so amazing that we all couldn’t help but share around the table. We tried the delicious Mac n’ cheese skillet, savory chicken and waffles with house made praline butter, fish n’ grits that were next level, ox tail that was so tender it fell off the bone, and skillet cornbread with bourbon praline butter and blueberry jam. Ms. Icey’s also offers a vast array of handmade cocktails such as the Coconut Rum Punch and Red Lemonade.

While we love trying new places even when revisiting a destination, Ms. Icey’s is without a doubt a restaurant we look forward to visiting again. If you’re looking for the perfect combination of succulent food, fun family atmosphere and hospitality, do yourself a favor reserve a spot at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar.
