This weekend our family decided to take a short road trip to Jacksonville, Florida. With brunch on the mind, we had our sights set on a restaurant that has been voted as Jacksonville’s best for three years in a row- Grumpy’s Restaurant (home of the bad mood dude). Don’t let the name trick you. This place has outstanding hospitality.
Grumpy’s is a breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot that specializes in southern homestyle dishes. If you’re not already aware that this is one of the most loved restaurants in Jax, you’ll find out as soon as you pull into the parking lot. There will likely be a line to get in, but we promise it’s worth it. While you wait, you can enjoy playing giant versions of Jenga and Connect 4. They even have cornhole boards. We loved getting this surprise extra fun time with our boys.
The menu is extensive, so be sure to take your time. The staff is so friendly and happy to answer any questions you may have. All dishes are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Stephen decided on waffles. Braxton chose a cheese burger and fries. Brian chose a mix of sweet and savory by ordering the Grumpy’s breakfast wrap with a waffle on the side. And I chose to create my own meal, selecting the award-winning crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, and home fries. Once our food made its way to the table, the small talk was quickly replaced with quiet enjoyment and the occasional “mmm” and “this is so good!”
Between the family game time while waiting, and eating this delicious meal together, this experience was top notch from start to finish. Our full bellies had us questioning “who’s going to drive home?” We highly recommend Grumpy’s Restaurant, and you can visit them at either their Orange Park or Middleburg locations. They also have a new spot opening in St. John’s coming soon! Take our advice, show up hungry. Grumpy’s serves hearty portions. You will definitely leave satisfied.
