While we love to travel and try new cuisines, we are often reminded that mouth watering delicacies can be found just around the corner. In this particular instance, it came in the form of a mobile food kitchen.

We took a short thirty minute trip outside of Gainesville to Newberry, Florida. Here, we arrived at TommyKnockers Mobile Kitchen, owned by Chef Thomas Fowler. He is known for his southern fusion creations. This chef has a great understanding of which spices work together, and how to use them to create dishes that explode with bold flavor. He uses only fresh ingredients, made to order. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, but after much deliberation, here are the selections we made: Saffron yellow rice bowl- The rice was topped with smoked chicken, black bean and roasted corn pico de gallo, queso cojita, avocado tomatillo salsa, and chipotle lime crema. It was garnished with smoked chili powder and cilantro. Fried shrimp platter- Twelve juicy shrimp, lightly battered and fried, paired with black bean corn fritters, seasoned fries, and smoked elote. The elote was rubbed and seasoned with tequila lime, chipotle lime crema, queso cojita, and pico de gallo. It was also garnished with chili powder and cilantro. These creations awakened our taste buds in so many different facets. The heat from the chili powder, the cool creaminess of the avocado salsa, and the sweet and buttery taste of the bean corn fritters had us eager for the next bite. As surprising as it may seem, one of our favorite items on this list was the fries! I know what you’re probably thinking “all of this amazing food, and the fries are what you’re raving about?” I get it. However, the Danforths are fry fanatics. We still do not know what his secret seasoning is, but we were all agreeable that the fries were out of this world. We collectively said “what did he put on these fries?!” They were so crispy and flavorful.

Each dish was amazing, to say the least. There was a line to order, filled with repeat customers and first timers like ourselves. We can now confidently say we are happy to stand in it any time. TommyKnockers did not disappoint.
